Description
Overcoming Hateful Things: Stories from the Jim Crow Museum of Racist Imagery explores the Jim Crow system, the African American experience during the Jim Crow era, and the system’s enduring legacies in modern society. Dr. David Pilgrim, founder and director of the Jim Crow Museum at Ferris State University, will provide insights into the exhibition, which features objects that trace the history of caricaturing and stereotyping of African Americans while promoting racial understanding and healing. A nationally recognized scholar, educator, and collector, Dr. Pilgrim has dedicated his career to documenting and teaching about the history of racism and racial stereotypes in America. A book signing with Dr. Pilgrim will follow the talk.
