Inspired by the Museum's summer exhibitions, The Other Route 66 and The Woods Before Sunrise Chatter returns this August with a four-part concert series exploring themes of journeying, memory, and landscape.
Aug 6: Music for wind quintet and piano inspired by environment, place and landscape. Including Valerie Coleman's Red Clay & Mississippi Delta, Kenji Bunch's Summer Hours, John Cage's Harmonies from Apartment House 1776, and Samuel Barber's Summer Music, plus original works by New Mexico composers James Shields and Luke Gullickson.
Aug 13: Another Route 66-inspired trip across America, with music for string quartet including Jerod Impichchaachaaha' Tate's Pisachi, Missy Mazzoli's Death Valley Junction, Harold Budd's Dream of the Girl at the Lonely Desert Cafe, and John Adams' Fellow Traveler.
Aug 20: A Chatter diptych for Third Thursday! Indoors in the salon at 6pm, Linda Catlin Smith's Dirt Road for violin and percussion. Outdoors in the amphitheater at 7pm: Terry Riley's minimalist classic party piece In C for an ensemble of 11 Chatter musicians.
Aug 27: Chatter celebrates the conclusion of the summer series with a command performance of Igor Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, in a tight arrangement for 12-piece chamber orchestra by Cliff Colnot.
