City Councilor Dan Lewis has been working tirelessly to serve the District 5 Northwest communities of Albuquerque. He is working to keep Albuquerque healthy, growing, and economically stable. Among his priorities are a facilitation of private sector job creation, protection of families and neighborhoods from crime, and improving and expanding the network of West Side roads.

Councilor Lewis is encouraging an environment where small businesses can start, grow, and flourish, believing that’s where our local jobs come from. Dan believes that over-regulating puts an undue burden on existing small businesses and discourages entrepreneurs. His focus is on policies that allow small and medium-size businesses to do what they do best—create jobs.

Councilor Lewis is promoting safer neighborhoods through community awareness and service, making our city cleaner, more efficient, safer and more enjoyable. He is working with police, firefighters, our community centers, neighborhood associations and coalitions, non-profits and faith-based organizations to promote opportunities and events that improve safety in our neighborhoods and meet many of the unseen needs in our communities.

Councilor Lewis is striving to foster a mindset of service and integrity on the council and in all levels of city government. He is concerned about government waste and inefficiencies and is working to ensure that fiscal responsibility drives city revenues and expenses.

Councilor Dan Lewis has been a resident of Albuquerque’s West Side for 17 years, where he and his wife Tracy, a third grade teacher at Seven Bar Elementary School, are raising their two children, Madison age 16 and Jensen age 14. Councilor Lewis has owned and operated two small businesses in Albuquerque. He is also a youth coach and a former teacher.

Councilor Lewis received a Masters Degree from Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, and his Bachelor of Arts from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona. He is certified as a high school teacher as well as an athletic coach in New Mexico, and has taught at Albuquerque’s Cibola High School. In addition to his family and business responsibilities, Lewis volunteers at his children’s schools, coaches Little League, and provides assistance to the homeless at “Noonday” in downtown Albuquerque. He is also a member of the National Kidney Foundation, and is a living kidney donor.

Lewis and his wife also founded the West Side’s Soul Rio Church, where for many years they have helped counsel troubled marriages, encouraged and supported parents, and promoted strong families. The church is a congregation of hundreds of adults and children where Councilor Lewis serves as Pastor.

Councilor Lewis has an open door, “I work for you” policy. He enjoys speaking with each of his constituents, listening to their ideas, and ensuring the West Side’s concerns are prioritized and addressed.

As Councilor, Dan Lewis is promoting job development on the West Side of Albuquerque, developing safer neighborhoods through community awareness and service, establishing healthier neighborhoods through the development of athletic fields and parks, and responding to District 5 constituents.
