  • When is the next election? The Regular Local Election Runoff will elect Council District 6. This election will be held on December 12, 2023.
  • Will early voting be available? Yes. Early voting will be available. For all early voting days and locations, please visit the Bernalillo County website here: www.berncovotes.org.
  • Do I need to be registered before I go to vote? No. Though you can get registered or check your registration prior to voting by visiting www.nmvote.org, you can also go into any voting location and register and vote on the same day.
  • Do I need to show identification to be able to vote? No. New Mexico state statute allows an individual to verbally identify themselves at the polling location. You can show a photo id for identification if you choose to, but you are not required to. However, a photo identification may be required if you are a first-time voter who registered to vote by mail.
  • Why don’t I need to show Voter ID when I vote anymore? In 2018 the Albuquerque City Council approved and Mayor Keller signed the ordinance that opted the City of Albuquerque into the Local Election Act. This measure shifted the management of local elections to the Bernalillo County Clerk and the local elections are now governed by state statute.
  • How do I request an absentee ballot? You can request an absentee ballot by visiting www.nmvote.org or reaching out to the Bernalillo County Clerk’s office at www.berncovotes.org
  • Do I need an excuse to request an absentee ballot? No. New Mexico does not require an excuse to request an absentee ballot.

Voter Registration is conducted and maintained by the Bernalillo County Clerk 505-243-VOTE (8683).

 

Remember: If you have moved, completed a legal name change, or changed your party affiliation, you need to update your voter registration with the Bernalillo County Clerk.
