Dave Bartram

Mayor Keller, Chief of Police Harold Medina, and other APD officials held a dedication ceremony to dedicate a city shooting range and building to retired APD sergeant, Dave Bartram, who served for nearly 50 years.

Sergeant Bartram joined APD in 1973, serving in critical investigative and tactical roles throughout his career. He helped create the Repeat Offenders Project, one of the nation’s earliest specialized investigative units. He also led the development of APD’s SWAT and tactical operations teams. Later, as Range Master, he trained generations of officers and advanced firearms proficiency and safety standards across the department.

“Sergeant Bartram’s story is a story of Albuquerque,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “He helped build APD’s foundation through his commitment to safety, training and integrity. Every officer who trains here will be reminded of his legacy of service.”

“Sergeant Bartram’s leadership and mentorship defined what it means to lead with honor,” said Chief Harold Medina. “His impact will be remembered by all who go through training at this facility.”

The newly named Sergeant Dave Bartram Firearms Range will continue to serve as APD’s central training site.
