Trash Drop Off

Information about the three public trash drop-off locations in Albuquerque.

Guidelines

Please Note

The City’s Convenience Centers close at 5 p.m. Due to longer-than-average wait times, the facilities will not admit cars after 4:30 p.m.

Prohibited Items

Do not dispose of the following items:

  • hazardous waste, medical waste, infectious waste, dead animals, ammunition, or firearms
  • hot waste or smoldering waste (coals, wood, or ashes)
  • construction or demolition debris (this includes drywall)
  • roofing materials
  • waste containing free liquids
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Compressed gas cylinders

Check if you can dispose of household hazardous waste at the HHWCC.

Vehicle Capacity Limits

Any vehicle transporting material to any City Convenience Center is limited to a rated capacity of under two tons.

Trailers

Vehicles plus trailers that are 40 feet combined in length are accepted at Eagle Rock, Montessa Park, and Don Reservoir.

Item Limits

  • Appliances – 2 allowed with refrigerant intact at ERCC and MPCC. Please remove all food from refrigerators and freezers prior to disposal.
  • Up to 10 mattresses per residential or small commercial customer are allowed at ERCC and MPCC.
  • Up to 3 mattresses are allowed at DRCC.
  • Up to 10 pallets per customer are allowed at ERCC and MPCC.
  • Up to 10 railroad ties at ERCC and MPCC.
  • Up to 5 pallets are allowed at DRCC.
  • Up to 5 railroad ties at DRCC.
  • Only 9 cubic feet (2 wheelbarrow loads) of concrete, dirt, rock, gravel, or brick is allowed at ERCC, MPCC, and, DRCC.
  • Soil or gravel must not be contaminated with oil, gas, or hazardous substances.
  • Up to 5 tires (auto/small truck) per customer at all locations.
  • For tree stumps or limbs, they cannot be larger than 18 inches in diameter including the tree root "ball" and no longer than 8 feet total.
  • If quantities of mattresses, tires, and pallets or the measurements of tree stumps or limbs exceed the above limits they must be taken to Cerro Colorado Landfill for disposal.
  • Customers must bag all insulation prior to disposal.
  • Auto batteries will be accepted, as long as they are not leaking.

Convenience Center Locations

The Solid Waste Management Department provides three convenience centers in the City where residents and small commercial haulers can drop-off trash. Eagle Rock Convenience Center also functions as an additional drop-off site for recycling.

All convenience centers are closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day.

Eagle Rock Convenience Center

This facility cannot receive refrigerators.

Montessa Park Convenience Center

Currently open 5 days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday) 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. No recyclables accepted. Vehicles arriving after 4:30 p.m. will not be admitted.

Disposal Fees and Load Sizes

  • For $5.25 per load (including tax) you may take your excess trash, yard waste, and large items to any convenience center location (residents and small commercial customers only).
  • Tarp and secure your vehicle’s load to avoid an additional clean-up fee of $5.82 (including tax).
  • We accept Cash, Check, Mastercard, Visa and American Express

The City reserves the right to refuse any load or items that might cause injury to personnel or damage to equipment.
