Over 100 Celebrate Earth Month by Responsibly Recycling E-Waste
Annual drive-through event diverts tons of electronics from our landfill and to new life.
Residents from across Albuquerque came together this weekend at Balloon Fiesta Park to responsibly dispose of unwanted electronics during the City’s annual E-Waste Drop-Off Event hosted by the Solid Waste Management Department.
Saturday’s drive-through event provided a convenient and efficient way for 106 community members to recycle tons of electronics safely as we celebrate Earth Month. Throughout the day, residents arrived with vehicles full of outdated or unused devices, while City crews worked quickly to unload materials and keep traffic moving smoothly..
“Keeping our city clean and beautiful takes effort from all of us, and when we pitch in to protect the environment, it makes a real difference,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “By coming together to responsibly dispose of electronics, our residents are helping protect our air, land, and water—and showing that even small actions can make a big impact.”
The event helped ensure that electronic waste—items that can contain hazardous components—was properly handled and kept out of the landfill. By participating, residents were able to give new life to these potentially harmful material as they will be salvaged for components are reused.
From computers and printers to phones and cables, a wide range of electronics was collected and will now be processed through appropriate recycling channels.
“When our community comes together for events like this, we’re doing more than recycling—we’re protecting our neighborhoods and preserving the beauty of Albuquerque,” said Solid Waste Management Director Billy Gallegos. “This is what it looks like when a city takes pride in where it lives and works together to care for it.”
