Help “shower” orphaned kittens and puppies by donating needed items

April 07, 2026

ALBUQUERQUE — The City of Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department (AWD) is hosting a virtual kitten and puppy shower now through April 30 for the hundreds of orphaned kittens and puppies expected through summer.

You can help these bundles of joy by donating items listed on our Amazon.com baby registry. Type in Kennel Kompadres with a ‘K’ to make your donation.

“Any of us can give these vulnerable kittens and puppies a strong start,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “Even just a blanket or toy brings a little comfort to animals who need it most.”

“Spring and summer bring an overwhelming number of orphaned litters into our care, and our resources are stretched to meet their needs,” said AWD Director Carolyn Ortega. “These donations directly support our foster families and help ensure every kitten and puppy receives the love they deserve.”

Donations can also be dropped off at any AWD shelter. Find a list of locations at www.cabq.gov/pets.

AWD is always looking for foster parents to provide temporary homes for animals. Fostering is a rewarding experience and saves precious lives. If you are interested in fostering, apply here. For information email [email protected].
