Tag – You’re It! Free Custom Pet Tags
ALBUQUERQUE – There’s no place like home for a lost pet, especially the home that’s missing them! Without identification, many pets don’t find their way home. The City of Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department (AWD) aims to change that.
Starting now, AWD’s Tag – You’re It! campaign is offering Albuquerque residents three options for obtaining FREE custom pet tags.
- Fill out a form on AWD’s website and the tags will arrive in the mail
- Go to the Eastside or Westside shelter. No appointments needed
- Visit Lucky Paws Adoption Van during its offsite events
Whether you’ve never had an ID tag for your pet, need to update your contact information, or simply need a new one, AWD has you covered.
Pet tags are important because they provide a readily visible way for someone who finds a lost pet to easily contact the owner. The ID tag increases the chances of a pet being returned home safely. The ID tag acts as a first line of identification, allowing people to know a pet has an owner they can contact.
“Having a visible ID tag will increase the likelihood of a good samaritan being able to reunite a pet with its owner promptly,” said Animal Welfare Department Director Carolyn Ortega. “Any time a stray pet can be reunited with their family, instead of being taken to the shelter, it’s a great day for that pet, their family, and the community. It also leaves space in the shelter for those pets that really need us.”
“We’re providing this free service to ensure every pet owner in Albuquerque can tag their pets and help keep them safe,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “A pet ID tag is a small and simple way to protect your pets, and it benefits all animals in the community by conserving shelter space and resources.
Spread the word and tag a friend who needs to know! Let’s make sure every pet has an ID tag to get home.
