Albuquerque team triumphs in women’s 50+ softball division and shines on a national stage

ALBUQUERQUE – The Get Dirty OG's softball team, celebrating their 30th anniversary of playing together, took home the gold medal at the Huntsman World Senior Games, concluding a hard-fought competition held October 16-18. The team's victory marks a memorable highlight in the multi-day tournament held in St. George, Utah.

Among the champions was City of Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department Director Carolyn Ortega, whose dramatic diving catch ended the game and sent the team to the championship round. Wendy Jobin sealed the victory with a walk-off triple, clinching gold for the Get Dirty OG’s. Jobin also earned two silver medals in track, showcasing her exceptional athleticism across multiple events.

Competing in the women's softball division for athletes aged 50 and better, the Get Dirty OG's showcased exceptional teamwork and skill throughout the tournament. After advancing through seven competitive games, the team clinched the gold with a thrilling comeback victory in the decisive final match.

"This is what we've been working toward all season," said Shelley Gonzales, coach of the Get Dirty OG's. "The competition was fierce, but our team's dedication and spirit truly shone through. We're proud to bring this medal home and celebrate with our friends and family."

“This experience was incredible,” said Ortega. “Our team gave everything we had on the field. It’s an honor to represent Albuquerque and bring home the gold alongside such talented and dedicated teammates.”

“Albuquerque is home to incredible talent and community spirit, and the Get Dirty OG’s embody both,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “Their three decades of teamwork and determination are inspiring enough; bringing home the gold is really next level.”

The women's softball tournament featured teams from around the nation, all vying for the prestigious title of Senior World Champion. The Get Dirty OG's, a proud Albuquerque-based team, demonstrated impressive defensive plays and powerful hitting that ultimately secured their spot atop the podium.

The Huntsman World Senior Games, a worldwide event fostering peace, health, and friendship, concluded on October 18, with final medals being awarded across many sports.
