Animal Welfare Department is offering training classes to take care of kittens and puppies
February 06, 2024

The Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department (AWD) needs volunteers to be part of our kitten and puppy caregivers’ team. AWD’s orphan kitten and puppy caregiver classes will start in March. To sign up or for more information, please send an email with your contact information to  [email protected] . Our staff will then have you complete an online application to become part of our volunteer team. Sign up today!

The AWD offers volunteer opportunities in a variety of volunteer caregiver fields, including First Responders, Nursery Caregivers, and Foster Caregivers.  Please see below for opportunities!

  • First Responders are part of an overnight trained nursery team, providing care to neonatal and under age/underweight orphaned kittens and puppies and return them back to the clinic the next day.
  • Nursery Caregivers will be part of a trained nursery team providing intensive care to orphaned and under age/weight kittens at the shelter clinic until foster families are secured.
  • Foster Caregivers open up their homes to take care of some of our community's most vulnerable animals.

Volunteering in the Caregivers program is a rewarding commitment. Being part of AWD’s program, you will play an essential life-saving role in the journey of a shelter pet to their new family.

In the Caregivers program, AWD does provide pet food and supplies when taking care of our shelter pets.

If you are interested in being part of the Foster Caregivers program, apply here. For information email at [email protected] .

By being part of the One Albuquerque team, you will make a true impact in the lives of animals without homes.
