City Announces First Phase of Improvements to Vista Del Norte Park

Preparations begin for new turf field and irrigation system

Today, the City of Albuquerque announced phase one of improvements to a popular park are underway. Vista Del Norte Park, located on Osuna just west of I-25, currently features a large turf field that provides space for many youth sport practices and games. The initial phase announced today, new turf field and irrigation system on the currently undeveloped eastern half of the park.

“We’re working to create an equitable and accessible parks system that works for all Albuquerque families," said Mayor Tim Keller. “The importance of our parks to our mental and physical health was made even clearer by the pandemic, making this type of investment more important than ever.”

The initial phase of the project was made possible through capital outlay funding from area legislators. Pending additional funding from upcoming bond cycles, future phases will include nearly double the amount of parking spaces, restrooms near the existing field on the west side of the park, a dog park to the east, a perimeter trail and numerous trees and other plants.

“The improvements to Vista Del Norte will create even more reasons for folks to visit this popular park,” said David Flores, Deputy Director of Parks and Recreation. “We encourage the public to stay tuned as construction kicks off and progress is made.”

Some construction has already begun on the eastern side of the park, and should not impact activities on the current turf field and parking lot.
