Nob Hill Lights Up
New solar lighting coming to neighborhood’s bike boulevard
ALBUQUERQUE - The Department of Municipal Development (DMD) is lighting up an important bike boulevard in the Nob Hill neighborhood. New solar lights will be installed in a multiphase project along Silver from Yale to Girard. The project is set to begin on July 21 and will happen in three phases.
The first phase will extend from Girard to Columbia, the second from Columbia to Cornell, and the final phase from Cornell to Yale. A total of 42 new lights will be installed. This project, carried out by Dalkia Energy Solutions, is expected to take eight weeks to complete. Residents should note that traffic in the area may be affected.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 80% of pedestrian deaths and 56% of cyclist deaths occur when low light is a factor
“Sometimes the simplest solutions go a long way in solving really big problems,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “Adding more lights can literally save lives.”
The new lights on Silver will improve visibility, making bikes and pedestrians more noticeable to motorists. This initiative enhances safety and supports the City’s Stop for Everyone campaign, which educates the public about Albuquerque’s traffic laws.
“This area is a popular route for neighbors and a favorite among bicyclists. Better lighting will create a safer environment for all,” said DMD Director Jennifer Turner.
