City Councilor Renee Grout and the Foothills Area Command are putting on a family event called Touch A Truck on Saturday, July 16, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Four Hills Shopping Center. It will be an opportunity for kids of all ages to get up close to police cruisers, fire trucks, and heavy equipment. The event will include:

  • The APD lowrider
  • Law enforcement vehicles from APD, BCSO and the State Police
  • Fire trucks
  • Construction equipment including a front-end loader, a dump truck, a motor grader, and a vactor, which is used to clean out storm drains
  • The Army and the Air National Guard will be there with military vehicles
  • The City’s Aviation, Community Safety, Arts & Culture and Family and Community Services departments will have activities and demonstrations for the kids.
  • The Animal Welfare Department will have a pet adoption event
  • Free paletas donated by the Paleta Bar (while supplies last)
  • Music will be provided by DJ Evan from Red Sapphire Entertainment

“The corner of Central and Tramway is the heart of Council District 9 and the gateway to Albuquerque,” said Renee Grout, City Councilor for District 9. “It has also seen its share of struggles lately. I want to encourage neighborhood gatherings like this that reclaim our city, support our local businesses, and create opportunities for families to interact with our police officers and firefighters who work so hard to keep us safe.”
