City and State Leaders Unveil Renovated Playground at Embudo Hills Park
Joint City and State funding revitalizes the oldest park in City Council District 9.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Today, City Council District 9 Councilor Renée Grout, State Senator Anthony L. Thornton, and Albuquerque Parks and Recreation Director Dave Simon joined community members to celebrate the grand reopening of the playground at Embudo Hills Park.
Originally constructed in the early 1980s, Embudo Hills Park holds the distinction of having the oldest playground in Council District 9. The newly completed upgrades deliver modern, updated playground equipment designed to serve neighborhood families for generations to come.
"Embudo Hills Park has been a cherished neighborhood staple for more than four decades," said City Councilor Renée Grout. "As the oldest park in District 9, it deserved a modern playground where our children can play safely. This project is a wonderful example of what we can accomplish when City and State leaders work together for our community."
The revitalization was funded through a partnership combining $113,266 in Councilor Grout’s District 9 set-asides, $22,734 in General Obligation (GO) Bond funds from Parks and Recreation Department, State Capital Outlay Grants secured by Senator Hickey ($100,000) and Representative Dixon ($50,000).
"Embudo Hills Park is a green space gem for the neighborhood and our city,” said Parks and Recreation Director Dave Simon. “Thanks to Councilor Grout, Sen. Hickey, Rep. Dixon, Senator Thornton and the neighborhood itself for all the support to get this important project completed.”
Following the formal ribbon cutting, local families and attendees enjoyed community festivities while children tested out the new play structures.
