The wonderful smells of freshly prepared vegan food wafted through the air around Carlisle and Comanche, guiding anyone around to the First Unitarian Church on Carlisle Boulevard this Saturday for the tenth annual Red & Green VegFest

District 7 City Councilor Tammy Fiebelkorn co-sponsored the culinary and thought-provoking festival with the Sierra Club Rio Grande Chapter, Healthy World Vitality Plan, and Positive Links organizations. Councilor Fiebelkorn moderated speaker presentations throughout the day and helped her partner Paul Roybal with his audience-favorite cooking demo which features different vegan pasta sauces that are easy to make and incredibly yummy!

VegFest staff and volunteers shared valuable information with attendees at the event, including live presentations, cooking demonstrations, vegan mentorship, dietary classes, and 'vegan swaps' where the community meets to share supplies, equipment, and information.

"I had such a great time at today’s Red & Green VegFest!” Councilor Fiebelkorn said. “It was amazing to see so many people coming together right here in District 7 to enjoy great food, support local vendors, and celebrate a lifestyle that’s kind to animals, the planet, and our health. This is what community looks like."

The VegFest included presentations and cooking exhibitions from noted chefs and dietitians. Scores of attendees sampled the delicious foods and products offered by area vendors. There were free giveaways and fun events for all ages.

“I'm incredibly thankful to everyone who joined the 10th Annual Red & Green VegFest,  One World, Countless Lives—not just for attending, but for actively seeking knowledge to help animals, protect the planet, and improve personal and family health. Their curiosity and commitment are the seeds of a better world,” said Nancy Arenas, VegFest organizer and Executive Director of Sprouting Compassion.
