Explore the museum at your own pace and time.  We are happy to provide interactive learning materials to help you get the most out of your visit.

School Year Field Trips: Preschool-1st Grade

School Year Field Trips: Grades 2-12

Programmed field trips to the Balloon Museum combine STEAM concepts and ballooning know-how in a fun, educational experience for all students. Enjoy hands-on learning activities, a guided tour, and time inside a hot air balloon envelope.

  • Tuesdays & Fridays, November through May.
  • Reservations required. 
  • Please apply early. Learning activities and guided tours are subject to availability and spots fill quickly.

Planning Your Field Trip

Please see day and time information each field trip type below.

Programmed Field Trips

  • Tuesday & Friday mornings, November through May
  • 1 ½ hour program of tour and activities between 9:30 a.m. and noon
  • Groups may stay to explore the museum independently
  • Visits should conclude by 1:00pm. We recommend visits of 2-2 ½ hours

Self-Guided Field Trips

  • May be scheduled throughout the year
  • Days and times are flexible

Please note: The Balloon Museum does not run field trips in the weeks around the annual Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.

Numbers

  • Maximum: 60 students (minimum adult : student ratio of: 1 : 7 elementary / 1 : 10 middle & high school).

Admission Fee

  • No admission fee for field trip groups with a confirmed reservation.
  • All groups must follow the required adult : student ratios and chaperone guidelines.
  • Students must be actively chaperoned at all times.

Lunch Space

  • The museum offers a large patio and outdoor grounds for lunch.
  • Indoor space may be arranged if there is inclement weather.
  • Please plan to supply your own lunches. There is no cafeteria or snack bar to purchase food on site.

Transportation

The Flying Bus Scholarship Program provides free transportation for Title I Schools in the Albuquerque Metro Area. 

Flying Bus Eligibility and Requirements:

   1)      Title 1 and eligible schools
   2)      Maximum capacity for the school bus for a field trip is 60
   3)      Share your experience by submitting something to the museum after your visit
             (pictures drawn by students, thank you cards, photographs, etc.)
   4)      Complete a post-visit feedback form

If your group meets the requirements for a Flying Bus Scholarship and you would like to apply, please complete the brief application at the end of the reservation form. Please note that the program is limited by availability. Reserve early.
