Description
Sofie Hecht is a Brooklyn-born, Albuquerque-based documentary photographer. She studied in the International Center of Photography’s Documentary and Visual Practice program (2023), where she began a long-term project documenting the effects of the nuclear industrial complex on New Mexican families living within 50 miles of the Trinity test site.
Hecht will discuss Downwind, a documentary photo album exploring the continued impact of radiation exposure following the 1945 Trinity nuclear test. Following the talk, guests are invited to participate in a zine-making workshop focused on remembering relatives through family photos and histories inspired by the stories of the Trinity Downwinders. Participants are encouraged to bring a few family photos and a journal.
