Reinvesting in Albuquerque’s Neighborhoods
The Metropolitan Redevelopment Agency partners with neighborhoods, businesses, developers, and community organizations to support projects that strengthen Albuquerque’s existing communities.
MRA supports housing, infrastructure, economic development, and revitalization projects within designated Metropolitan Redevelopment Areas across the city. These efforts include housing and commercial redevelopment, infrastructure improvements, public-private partnerships, and long-term planning initiatives shaped by community input.
Our Mission
To initiate collaborative public-private partnerships that lead to thoughtful and catalytic revitalization by investing in community for sustainable and equitable growth.
Our Vision
Through restorative redevelopment, Albuquerque will retain its diversity, authenticity, and sense of community, while vibrant and connected neighborhoods provide opportunity for residents to flourish.

Metropolitan Redevelopment Areas (MR Areas)
MR Areas are designated parts of the city where redevelopment tools and public investment support housing, infrastructure, economic development, and revitalization efforts.

Request for Proposals (RFPs)
MRA issues Requests for Proposals for redevelopment projects, planning efforts, and public‑private partnerships that activate underutilized properties and support long‑term community investment.

Albuquerque Development Commission (ADC)
The ADC reviews redevelopment proposals and public‑private projects within MR Areas and serves as a recommending body to the Albuquerque City Council.
The Albuquerque Rail Trail
The Albuquerque Rail Trail is a 7-mile urban multi-use trail that will link Albuquerque's vibrant downtown area to nearby neighborhoods, cultural destinations, entertainment districts, mass transportation options, and the Rail Yards, creating a world class urban amenity that will catalyze redevelopment.
The Rail Trail is imagined both as a celebration of Albuquerque’s cultural history and a bright vision for our shared future. We all benefit when Albuquerque is a healthy, connected, walkable, and bikeable city where residents can get around safely and easily, our small businesses can flourish, and all our neighborhoods have an opportunity for thoughtful growth.

Redevelopment Tax Abatement
The tax abatement program freezes property taxes at their pre‑development value, helping make redevelopment projects financially feasible, especially during initial stages.

Tax Increment Financing (TIF)
TIF allows a portion of new tax revenue in a designated area to be reinvested back into the area's infrastructure and redevelopment projects.
