City Clerk's Office

The Office of the City Clerk serves the needs of the public by maintaining the official records of the City, by conducting City elections and by enacting all City legislation.

The City Clerk is the Chief Records Custodian for the City of Albuquerque and processes requests for public records pursuant to the New Mexico Inspection of Public Records Act.

The Office of the City Clerk is also responsible for accepting all non-electronic bids from the general public in response to requests from the Departments of Municipal Development and Purchasing.

The Clerk and her staff are honored to assist citizens and fellow public servants in all aspects of the office.

Elections

City elections are your opportunity to affect the future of our City. The Office of the City Clerk is responsible for providing fair and impartial municipal elections.

The City Clerk conducts City elections each odd numbered year. Special elections, as allowed by the City Charter, are conducted as necessary.

The City of Albuquerque's elected officials are the Mayor and the nine City Councilors, each serving four-year terms. Mayor Richard J. Berry was elected on October 6, 2009 along with the councilors for the five odd numbered City Council districts. The four even numbered City Council districts elected councilors on October 4, 2011.

The next City election is Tuesday, October 8, 2013.  Albuquerque voters will elect a Mayor and councilors for the five even-numbered council districts, along with any Bonds, Propositions or Questions placed on the ballot.

2012 Primary and General Elections

The Bernalillo County Clerk will administer the 2012 election cycle.

Public Records

The City of Albuquerque maintains public records following federal, state and local laws. Citizens may inspect public records by contacting the Office of the City Clerk by mail, e-mail or in person. Written requests for public records must contain the name, address and telephone number of the person seeking access to the records and identify the records sought with reasonable particularity. Requests to inspect public records are responded to pursuant to the New Mexico Inspection of Public Records Act. Each City Department must post the Notice of Right to Inspect Public Records.

Open Government

In addition to our efforts to efficiently process requests for inspection of public records, the City of Albuquerque is also making government more accessible by providing information about government spending, contracts, audits and investigations, ongoing construction projects and more in the City of Albuquerque transparency website, ABQ View.

In many instances, City Officials, candidates, lobbyists and contractors are required by the City Charter and Revised Ordinances of Albuquerque to make disclosures of information to the public.

Board of Ethics

The Office of the Clerk staffs the Board of Ethics and Campaign Practices. The Board oversees the City Charter Articles pertinent to municipal elections, including the Open and Ethical Elections Code, the Election Code and the Code of Ethics.

The terms of two board members, Jolene Wolfley and Alan Schwartz, have expired and City Council has recommended both members be appointed for second terms.

Citizens may provide written comment on the re-appointments to the City Clerk.

PUBLIC HEARINGS

The Albuquerque Housing Authority will meet on December 21, 2011 at noon to discuss proposed rules of conduct for the AHA Board of Housing Commissioners.  For further information please review the Notice.
