Description

Want to make a difference in your community? The City of Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department (AWD) invites you to become a real-life hero for shelter pets at the League of Volunteers Fair on Saturday, May 2, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Westside Shelter (11800 Sunset Gardens SW).

Dedicated volunteers with big hearts are behind-the-scenes superheroes at AWD. This event is your chance to join their ranks and discover how you can help animals in need. Whether you're a cat cuddler, dog walker, critter photographer, or just love animals, there’s a place for you in the League of Volunteers.

 Event highlights include:

  • Animal meet-and-greets – Get to know some of the pets you could help.
  • Facility tours – Look around and learn about shelter operations.
  • Informational booths – Explore a range of volunteer opportunities and roles.
  • Same-day sign-ups – On-site support available to guide you through the volunteer application process.

No cape is required, but volunteers must be 18 years or older and commit to at least six hours a month. Training is provided, and scheduling is flexible. Volunteers assist with everything from walking and socializing animals to supporting adoption events and helping in the clinic.

To apply in advance or email [email protected] for more info.

Join the League of Volunteers and improve the lives of Albuquerque’s shelter pets. AWD needs heroes like you!
