Description
Hard to believe, but this year marks the 20th anniversary of the Open Space Visitor Center! Come to an informal talk about the early days of the center, how the idea evolved, and how the facility was built and opened in 2006. The talk will be given by Matt Schmader, former Open Space Superintendent, who was the project manager for the center’s renovation and construction project.
Matt will also highlight the special connection between the Open Space Visitor Center and its surrounding lands such as the agricultural fields and gardens. The most important connection is with a nearby ancestral Pueblo village, and a special site tour is offered following the gallery talk. Matt will bring copies of his book, Uncovering America’s First War (UNM Press, 2025) for those interested in the longer textual version of the site history.
Tour size will be limited to 25 people.
