The Greater Albuquerque Active Transportation Committee (GAATC), established by Part 2-6-15 (revised by O-21-63 in June 2021) of the City's Code of Ordinances, advises the City on the needs of people who walk, bike, use mobility devices, use other people-powered transportation options, and use public transit ("active transportation users") in our community. The committee is composed of nine (9) members that represent different geographic areas and user groups in and around Albuquerque.

GAATC is interested in helping to make active transportation options more accessible by encouraging active participation in policy and planning efforts through all levels of government and building a more inclusive transportation community by representing the needs of the diverse population of active transportation users in the city. GAATC advises the Mayor, City Council, and City Departments and Divisions on projects, policies, and programs that improve and/or affect active transportation facilities and conditions in Albuquerque.

GAATC was known as the Greater Albuquerque Bicycling Advisory Committee (GABAC) from 1994 to 2021, focusing on bicyclists and bicycling facilities. In 2021, through O-21-63, City Council, working with members of the committee and staff, amended the scope to include all active transportation users and to address a wider array of transportation issues and opportunities in the city.

Committee Meetings

As of Summer 2021, GAATC meetings will begin to be held in person, with the option to participate virtually using Zoom. Meeting information, including a link to access the meeting will be posted on the GAATC events page each month in advance of the meeting.

Committee meetings are open to the public and are generally held from 4 to 6 p.m. on the second Monday of every month in City Hall on the 7th floor in the Department of Municipal Development's large conference room. Every third month, meetings will occur on the second Tuesday and will be held as a joint meeting with the Greater Albuquerque Recreational Trails Committee (GARTC).
