City of Albuquerque Gets Rolling with Westside Blvd. Improvements

Critical infrastructure improvements will increase capacity and lower West Side congestion.

ALBUQUERQUE – On Friday, March 3, 2023, City leaders came together to cut the ribbon on the critical infrastructure improvements to Westside Blvd.

The $10 million project made improvements to Westside Blvd. between Golf Course and NM-528 – a key junction joining Albuquerque and Rio Rancho.

“We are so grateful that these important improvements are now finished and working to more easily connect the community,” said Director of Municipal Development, Patrick Montoya. “These updates will provide much-needed relief to commuters and anyone visiting this side of town.”

In addition to widening this stretch of roadway from two lanes to four lanes, additional improvements included additional bike lanes, sidewalks, and lighting.

“Albuquerque’s growing West Side has long been plagued with the critical need for quality and adequate transportation infrastructure,” said City Councilor Dan Lewis.  “The completion of this roadway demonstrates our priority to build and widen roads while making our neighborhoods safer and providing better and more efficient access and for commuters.”

The improvements will increase capacity on Westside Blvd. by over 50 percent, which should improve congestion and provide traffic relief throughout the entire community.

“This project has been a long time coming,” said Deputy Director of Municipal Development, Jennifer Morrow. “Our goal is to build better infrastructure for our communities, and we are very happy to have accomplished that with this project in this community.”
