Albuquerque, N.M. – The City of Albuquerque is contracting with Youth Development Incorporated to serve as the operator of Gateway Young Adult, which will serve 41 people between the ages of 18 and 25.

The City Council approved the provider contract tonight.

Gateway Young Adult will be located at a former hotel on San Mateo Boulevard and Cutler Avenue, which is undergoing renovations. Once finished, it will provide case management, housing navigation, access to treatment, and life skills classes to help residents regain their independence.

“The Gateway System of Care is about identifying and bridging gaps that have long existed in our City,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “This is about making sure young adults don’t fall through the cracks, and instead have the support and stability needed to build a bright future.”

This will create a new pathway to housing for the young adults currently sleeping at Gateway West tonight. Over the last year, 138 young adults made up about 10% of the Gateway West population.

“At Gateway West, we often meet young adults who have aged out of the foster care system. Through this contract approval, our strong partners at YDI will play a pivotal role in helping young adults find lifelong stability and thrive,” said Health, Housing and Homelessness Director Gilbert Ramirez.

YDI is a strong community partner and the operator of Gateway Family. They offer various programs that uplift young adults, including behavioral health services, education, workforce development, job placement, violence prevention, and more.

This comes after vital operational dollars were allocated by the state, including $862,500 for operations at Young Adult Gateway.
