City Land Available to Develop into Affordable Homes
ALBUQUERQUE – The City is announcing two new Requests for Proposals to develop a handful of properties into affordable homeownership.
“There is an immediate need for several different types of affordable housing, which includes homeownership opportunities,” said Health, Housing and Homelessness Deputy Director, Joseph Montoya. “These vacant plots of land are an opportunity for a developer to build affordable townhomes or condos.”
These opportunities include:
Northeast Corner of 90th Street SW and San Ygnacio SW:
- HHH will award up to $780,000 in State Capital Outlay funding to spur the development of two adjacent parcels of land, totaling about two acres.
Barelas Neighborhood
- HHH will also award up to $455,000 in State Capital Outlay funding to develop six parcels of land totaling more than half an acre.
- Four parcels are located at the northwest corner of 2nd Street SW and Santa Fe SW, across from the railyards.
- Two separate parcels on 3rd Street SW and 4th Street SW, south of Cromwell, are also included in this request for proposal.
“We’re using every tool the City has to build more affordable housing,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “City-owned land is one of our most powerful resources, and by putting it to work, we’re partnering with developers to create the kind of housing Albuquerque families need.”
The Request for Proposal will close on July 8.
