City Boosts Calle Cuarta with Final Funding for Sustainability and Community Enhancements

Investment Secures Rooftop Solar, EV Charging, and Community Features at North Valley Affordable Housing Site.

ALBUQUERQUE—Calle Cuarta, a transformative affordable housing development in Albuquerque’s North Valley, is now fully funded following City Council approval of key gap financing. This latest investment ensures the addition of sustainability upgrades and community-focused features to benefit future residents.

This includes about $1.6 million in ARPA Emergency Rental Assistance funding and $380,000 in State Capital Outlay Funding.

“YES Housing is very grateful to receive this additional funding through the City of Albuquerque,” said Chris Baca, President and CEO of YES Housing.  “With these dollars we are adding rooftop solar, EV charging, community gardens, as well as playground, landscaping, and unit interior improvements.   Each of these upgrades will make this community a more sustainable environment for the residents of Calle Cuarta.”

This support builds on a prior $3.5 million investment from the City’s Workforce Housing Trust Fund and the donation of five acres of City-owned land to make this project a reality.

Located at Fourth and Candelaria, Calle Cuarta will deliver 61 affordable rental units for low-income individuals and families, ranging from studios to three-bedroom apartments. The development will also include ground-level retail space and four live-work units to support neighborhood vibrancy.

"Stable housing is the foundation for reducing homelessness," said Mayor Tim Keller. "Every investment in affordable housing is an investment in families, in dignity, and in a stronger future for our city."

“It is essential to efficiently get monies into the hands of developers who are ready to build,” said Health, Housing and Homelessness Deputy Director Joseph Montoya. “The funding the City is providing for Calle Cuarta has not only assisted in the building process but also add features that drastically improve the quality of life for residents.”

“Calle Cuarta quickly became a passion project for neighbors, who welcomed the new development. We look forward to witnessing the positive impact this community will have on the North Valley,” said Health, Housing, and Homelessness Director Gilbert Ramirez.

The project is currently under construction and is expected to be completed this fall.

Following the approval of this vital funding, interviews and b-roll will be made available upon request.
