City Offers Support to Small Businesses Impacted by Vandalism
Grant funds available to reduce cost of window replacement and repair
ALBUQUERQUE — The City of Albuquerque is launching another round of window grant funds to assist small businesses impacted by vandalism.
The program is a partnership between the Economic Development Department’s Small Business Office, Health, Housing & Homelessness Department, and the Albuquerque Police Department (APD). The grant is designed to help reduce the financial burden of replacing or repairing broken or damaged windows.
“This round of window grants continues our commitment to standing by local businesses,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “For a small business, the cost of vandalism can be devastating. These grants help business owners recover faster and get back to business.”
Priority will be given to businesses located in Pockets of Poverty. Eligible applicants include brick-and-mortar businesses with 25 or fewer employees, 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(6) nonprofit organizations, and educational entities located within the City of Albuquerque.
The grant will reimburse up to 80% of the total cost of window replacement or repair, with a maximum reimbursement of $3,000 per business. An additional $1,000 is available for projects that incorporate environmentally sustainable “green” glass or security glass for a possible total of $4,000 per business.
“By addressing window damage promptly, we can help ensure that our city remains both a safe and supportive place to do business,” said Senior Economic Developer Frankie Hermosillo. “We’re always looking for ways to adapt to the needs of our small business community and get them the help they need.”
Businesses that received funding through the previous round of window grants said the program made a meaningful difference.
“As a small nonprofit staffed entirely by volunteers, the grant support meant a great deal to us, said Kadampa Medication Center Executive Director Rick Vinnay. “We’re grateful to the City for helping organizations like ours recover and continue serving the community.”
“This program really helped my small business recover,” said J & J Nail Spa Owner Linh Phan. “I’m so thankful to the City for providing this support,”
“We’re so grateful for the City’s help and for recognizing how vandalism impacts small businesses like ours,” said Albuquerque Legal and Fiduciary Co-Owner Jessica Puma.
“It’s great that the City is doing this for small businesses,” said Uptown Sports Bar General Manager Nohelani Ader. “We truly appreciate the support.”
To qualify, incidents must have occurred on or after July 1, 2025, and applicants must provide appropriate documentation, including a police report and timestamped photos of both the damage and completed repairs. Applicants are also required to participate in a mandatory APD Business Crime Prevention Security Survey.
Applications can be submitted online at cabq.gov/windowgrant.
The Window Grant builds on the success of previous programs, including the Glass Replacement Program (July 2020) and the Window to Opportunity Grant (September 2024), which provided similar support to local small businesses.
