Albuquerque Entrepreneur Scores a Deal on Shark Tank
ALBUQUERQUE – Albuquerque’s small business community had reason to celebrate Friday night as Tavis Malcolm, founder of Morrison Outdoors, secured a deal on ABC’s Shark Tank. The win was revealed during a public watch party hosted by the City of Albuquerque on Civic Plaza, drawing a crowd of supporters eager to see one of their own make it big on national television.
“Pitching on Shark Tank was an incredible experience, and I’m beyond grateful to have landed a deal,” said Tavis Malcolm, Founder of Morrison Outdoors. “But what meant just as much was seeing our community come together to watch and celebrate this moment. Albuquerque has always believed in Morrison Outdoors, and that local support is what got us here.”
The event, held in honor of Small Business Week, featured food trucks, music, and a big-screen viewing of the episode. Attendees cheered as Tavis successfully pitched his innovative line of outdoor baby sleep gear and landed a deal with two of the Sharks, Mark Cuban and Barbara Corcoran.
“This is an exciting moment for Albuquerque,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “Tavis and Morrison Outdoors represent the spirit of innovation and grit that defines our local entrepreneurs. It’s special to see his vision recognized on a national stage.”
Morrison Outdoors, known for creating outdoor sleep systems for infants and toddlers, has grown from a homegrown idea into a nationally recognized brand. The Shark Tank deal is expected to provide critical momentum as the company expands operations and reaches new markets.
The City of Albuquerque’s Business Resource Center hosted the watch party as part of its ongoing commitment to supporting local entrepreneurs and fostering inclusive economic growth.
“Albuquerque is full of creative founders and big ideas,” said Economic Development Director Max Gruner. “Events like this show that our community rallies behind its small businesses—not just in spirit, but in celebration.”
