City of Albuquerque Celebrates 75 Years of Sandia National Laboratories

The City Council passes a resolution commemorating the contributions of SNL in Albuquerque.

The Albuquerque City Council today unanimously passed resolution (R-24-95) honoring Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) on its 75th anniversary in Albuquerque. For over seven decades, SNL has been a cornerstone of innovation, scientific advancement, and national security in Albuquerque and the United States.

“Sandia National Laboratories has been instrumental in driving technological progress and ensuring our nation’s safety,” said City Council President and District 5 Councilor Dan Lewis. “We are proud to recognize their contributions to our community and their commitment to excellence.”

Since its founding in 1949, Sandia has played a crucial role in national security, developing technologies that have protected the nation. Additionally, the laboratory has expanded its research to include renewable energy, cybersecurity, and advanced materials, addressing some of the world’s most pressing challenges.

Sandia has also been a strong supporter of the Albuquerque community, investing in educational programs, fostering partnerships, and creating jobs. The laboratory’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion has ensured that all voices are valued in the pursuit of scientific excellence.
