In addition to exhibition spaces, indoor gathering and meeting spaces, a café, and the Museum Store, the Albuquerque Museum also maintains an outdoor second floor deck and amphitheater. Performances, lectures, dance, music, and even weddings are common happenings throughout the Museum and in this space. Sculptures in this final section of the sculpture garden range in styles and materials. You can sit and have a chat with Sonny Rivera’s sculpture of Herbert Candelaria, or enjoy the view standing next to John Connell’s Ravens. Both Karen Yank’s Nocturne and Cynthia Barber’s As the World Turns are abstract works that could be viewed in relationship with music, the sounds of which often fill this space. Finally, Frederico Vigil’s fresco, Santa Madre Tierra y su Alma faces the amphitheater and reminds visitors of the importance of honoring nature, the cycles of life, and the interconnectedness of people in this place of gathering and celebration.
