Now Open!

Lucky Paws, the first municipal retail pet adoption center, is now open in Coronado Center. Located by Boot Barn, Lucky Paws is a welcoming and pleasant adoption center to showcase wonderful pets available for adoption.

Lucky Paws Mission

Serve as tireless champions for the animals of Albuquerque by providing them the finest care available along with hands-on assistance in finding happy homes.

Help Us Spread the Word!

  • Encourage potential pet adopters to go to Lucky Paws.
  • Adopt or buy pets from reputable breeders with valid permits. Do not patronize backyard breeders or puppy mills.

Lucky Paws Hours

Monday - Saturday: 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Sunday: Noon to 6 p.m.

All Lucky Paws pets are spayed or neutered and immunized, ready to go to their new, loving homes. All new pet parents must meet the City of Albuquerque qualified adopter requirements.

Who is a qualified adopter?

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Has never been convicted of any form of animal cruelty under any law
  • Has never been convicted two or more times for any violation of the HEART Ordinance or any preceding animal ordinance
  • Has never had any animal related permit revoked or suspended
  • Has never failed to reclaim an animal from Animal Welfare
  • Has not surrendered an animal within one year at the time of adoption
  • Has never been convicted of child or domestic abuse.

Holds

Since all Lucky Paws pets are ready and eager to go home, there will be no holds or layaways so potential adopters should be ready to take their new friend home.

Parking

We suggest parking on the southeast end of Coronado Center by Boot Barn since new pet parents are not allowed to show off their new friends by cruising the mall. The Lucky Paws staff will help you get your new best friend into your vehicle.

Mobile Lucky Paws

Have pets, will travel.

That's how the new "Mobile Lucky Paws" is making its mark around Albuquerque; by bringing more pets to more corners of the city...in style.

The new Adoption Van was unveiled by Mayor Martin J. Chávez at a news conference at Animal Welfare on December 8, 2007. It's covered with familiar scenes of Albuquerque and pets, including a picture of Dukes, Albuquerque's "First Pet." It has capacity for up to 30 dogs and cats, but will carry an average of 20 pets in air-conditioned or heated comfort. The “Mobile Lucky Paws” is making appearances around the city to boost adoptions, but for now it is primarily scheduled five days a week at stores in and around Cottonwood Mall to better serve Westside Albuquerque; a vastly under served area for adoptions which until budget cuts had been due to get a permanent Lucky Paws store at Cottonwood Mall.
Says Animal Welfare Director Jeanine L. Patterson, MS, RN, "we’re calling it the “Mobile Lucky Paws” because it will bring the individual attention and interaction Lucky Paws is famous for to people all over Albuquerque. We hope to bring a high level of service to under served Westside Albuquerque with our van, until we can one day build a new Lucky Paws in the area."

Look for our Mobile Lucky Paws as it becomes a fixture around town…especially on the Northwest side of Albuquerque.
