The History Division researches, collects, preserves, and exhibits the history of Albuquerque and the Middle Rio Grande Valley from the founding early Spanish settlements prior to the Pueblo Revolt in 1680 and the settlement of Albuquerque in 1706 to the present. In addition, the History Division exhibits traveling shows of a historic nature. Other sections of the History Division include the Photoarchives and Casa San Ysidro: The Gutiérrez/Minge House.
Four Centuries: The History of Albuquerque closed for renovation on October 23, 2011. Albuquerque Along the Rio Grande, the Museum's temporary history exhibition, wil open on November 20, 2011.
In 1967 the Albuquerque Historical Society donated its collection to The Albuquerque Museum forming the nucleus of the museum's permanent history collection. From that time forward people generously continue to contribute items of historical importance to the collection.
