About 6,500 City employees believe that providing quality government services to their fellow citizens is the most satisfying work anyone could choose to do.
The City knows you have many options, whether you are just beginning your career, seeking a second career or just looking for a new challenge.
We are always interested in talking with people who want to be part of a government that is moving forward.
The City strives to provide a competitive, comprehensive compensation package that will attract and retain the brightest and best.
Salary levels are generally competitive with the private sector and are reviewed periodically. The majority of City employees are members of one of seven bargaining units. The City pays bi-weekly on Friday. Automatic deposit is mandatory.
- Health insurance is offered through Presbyterian Health Plan System.
- Dental insurance is provided through Delta Dental or United Concordia Dental.
- Vision insurance is provided through Davis Vision.
Compared to other government employers, the City’s plan is the most generous and the least costly to employees because the City pays 83 percent of the premium cost.
Employees, their qualifying spouse or domestic partner, and qualifying dependents are eligible for insurance coverage.
Insurance coverage is available on the first day of the pay period following submission of enrollment forms to the Insurance Office.
To help defray employee’s out-of-pocket costs, the City offers a Section 125 flexible spending account plan that allows employees to set aside up to $5,000 per year to pay for qualifying medical, dental, and vision costs with pre-tax dollars. There is also a dependent-care option that allows employees to set aside up to $5,000 per year as well. Participation in the Flexible spending plan lowers your taxable income and often results in higher take home pay.
Health & Wellness Program
The City of Albuquerque is committed to providing physical activity and wellness opportunities for our employees and family members. In 2013, we were recognized as a Gold Level Fit-Friendly Worksite by the American Heart Association. In 2013 we also received the Fit-Friendly Worksite Innovation Award for collaborating with Presbyterian Health Plan to bring the Mobile Health Center to 11 work locations each month.
Participation in the state retirement plan, or PERA is required by state law.
This is a defined benefit plan that provides retirement income up to 75percent of your high 3-year average salary after 25 years of employment Participation in PERA guarantees you access to the retiree health care plan at retirement. Each pay period, 3.29 percent of your gross salary is withheld from your salary for PERA and 1.3 percent for the retiree health care authority.
The City contributes an additional 9.15 percent on your behalf for PERA and 1.3 percent for the retiree health program. Public safety employees can retire after 20 years; higher PERA contributions are required.
Life & Disability Insurance
Group term life insurance coverage equal to a percentage of your annual salary is provided at no cost to every employee. Employees may elect to purchase additional term life insurance at a very reasonable cost.
Employees may elect to purchase long-term disability insurance at competitive rates. By paying the premiums personally, benefits are tax-free to the insured employee under federal tax law.
