Pet Care Membership

The City of Albuquerque Employee Pet Care Membership offers city employees preventative pet care including vaccinations, wellness exams, and spay/neuter services, promoting responsible ownership through H.E.A.R.T. Ordinance (9-2-3-16).

Eligibility

  • 🏛️ Employees Only – Open to City of Albuquerque employees.

  • 📆 Membership Year – September 1 to August 31 (annually).

  • 📝 Enrollment Period – August 1 through August 31.

  • 🔒 Commitment – One-year required (exceptions subject to AWD approval).

  • 🐶 Attestation – Proof of pet ownership is required.

  • Opt-Out – Must occur during enrollment period.

Included Services:

  • 💉 Core Vaccinations:                                                                  

    • Dogs: DA2PP, Rabies

    • Cats: FVRCP, Rabies

  • ✂️ Spay and Neuter Surgery

  • 👩‍⚕️ Annual Wellness Exam

    • Heart, lungs, skin, coat, eyes, ears, nose, mouth

Not Included:

  • 🚫 Emergency/sick care

  • 🚫 Non-core vaccines (e.g., Bordetella, FELV)

  • 🚫 Surgeries other than spay/neuter

  • 🚫 Heartworm testing/prevention

Services are limited to healthy pets and at the discretion of AWD veterinarians.

Restrictions:

  • Pets over 90 lbs.

  • Pets over 6 years of age

  • Brachycephalic breeds (e.g., pugs, bulldogs, Persian cats)

  • Animals with aggressive behavior

Fund Allocation

  • 💳 Payroll deductions fund the H.E.A.R.T. Ordinance Program.

Enrollment & Disenrollment Process

To Enroll:

  1. Submit completed enrollment form to [email protected]

  2. Include Pet Ownership Attestation.

  3. Payroll will be notified to begin deductions.

To Disenroll:

  • Permitted only during the annual enrollment window or with AWD approval.

  • AWD reserves the right to remove members for pet behavior/public safety concerns.

  • Membership is subject to AWD guidelines and applicable city laws.
