Recovery Housing Report

The Department of Health, Housing, and Homelessness recently commissioned a report on recovery housing in Albuquerque. This new report, released in June 2024, assesses the landscape of recovery housing in Albuquerque and its capacity while also making recommendations.

What is Recovery Housing

The federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) defines recovery housing as safe, healthy, family-like, substance-free living environments that support individuals in their recovery from addiction.

Why?

This study supports the city's commitment to recovery housing and informs our strategic plan to bolster recovery housing.

Recovery Housing Report Findings

The report finds Albuquerque has 18 recovery housing providers, with about 800 beds available. All facilities range from levels 2 to 4.

Below is a chart outlining the levels of recovery housing:

The new report further evaluates the need for expansion and barriers to access.

The report also supports adopting the National Association of Recovery Residences (NARR) standard and SAMHSA’s best practices for recovery housing.
