Anticipated Completion: 2025

Background

The McDuffie-Twin Parks Traffic Calming Study was initiated by City Councilor Tammy Fiebelkorn in 2022 after numerous concerns from residents about crashes, speeding, and cut through traffic in the McDuffie-Twin Parks neighborhood.

Normally a study focuses on a more concentrated area, but the Councilor believed that the problems occurring at the intersection of Washington St and Constitution Ave were part of a wider scope. With funding from her office, she has asked that the study focus on the wider area of Carlisle Blvd to Washington St and Constitution Ave to Lomas Blvd. The project is currently approaching 90% design and completion is anticipated in 2025.

Project Funding

Capital Outlay funds for the construction phase of this project were provided by Representative Cristina Parajón.

Countermeasure Summary

Wilson & Company, Inc. engineers completed and submitted the results of their traffic study for the McDuffie-Twin Parks neighborhoods. The study was conducted along Washington St, Constitution Ave, Morningside Dr, Avenida Del Sol, Montclaire Dr, Mackland Ave, and Solano Dr. The purpose of this project was to collect and analyze traffic volumes, speeds, and conduct a safety analysis.

The study identified several options to increase safety along these roadways which include pedestrian crossings, striping, traffic circles, neckdowns/bulbouts, and speed bumps.

Councilor Fiebelkorn implemented a survey in response to concerns regarding the proposed traffic circle. The traffic circle has been removed as it did not receive enough support.
