Department of Municipal Development
What We Do
Albuquerque's Department of Municipal Development is dedicated to building our public facilities better and faster than ever before - from streets to drainage channels to Isotopes Park, Albuquerque's AAA baseball stadium and the 6th Area Command Center for the Albuquerque Police Department.
The Department was created in June of 2003 to lead the way in completing important projects on schedule and on budget for all City residents.
The Department brings together the individuals needed to plan, manage, and build these projects, providing us with the opportunity to achieve our goal: building Albuquerque...better, faster!

West Central Road Diet
West Central Avenue between 8th Street and Lomas Boulevard is going through a road diet, adding bike lanes and on street parking. Read the West Central Avenue Corridor Concept Plan here. This concept plan will restripe Central Avenue to one through lane in each direction with a continuous left turn lane, bike lane and on street parking.
Once the re-striping has taken place, traffic will be monitored for a one year period. During this time information will be collected to determine the effectiveness of the proposed design and quantify the benefits and impacts of the road diet prior to permanent construction.
