Route 790 Returns to the Road for Back-to-School

ABQ RIDE service from Westside to University area resumes August 18.

August 18, 2025

Route 790 connects commuters, families, and students to important hubs in central Albuquerque.

On Monday, August 18, Route 790 will hit the road once again after a summer hiatus as an important link from the Westside to the University area and major destinations in Old Town and Downtown. The route is especially popular for commuting students and staff at the University of New Mexico (UNM) and Central New Mexico Community College (CNM).

“Students and families need convenient bus routes that get them where they need to go,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “Route 790 is an important link connecting the Westside with education and enrichment opportunities in the downtown and University areas, and vice versa, for free.”

“With the school year kicking off, we hope that UNM and CNM students will take advantage of this one-seat ride across Albuquerque,” said Transit Director Leslie Keener. “Taking the 790 is a fantastic option to avoid gas and parking costs, reduce pollution, and study on the go.”

Route 790 will run hourly on weekdays from about 6 a.m. - 7 p.m., starting at the Northwest Transit Center near Cottonwood Mall and going South on Coors, East on I-40, South on Rio Grande, East on Lomas through downtown, and South on University where it provides service to UNM in addition to CNM per route improvements implemented last year.
