Artwork sought to promote sustainability on new City electric bus

Children, teens can enter designs to win $500 grand prize

June 16, 2021

The City of Albuquerque Transit Department is holding a kids-only art contest to promote sustainability and environmental education. ABQRide is expanding its electric vehicle fleet and one of those buses will be decorated with the winning artwork. The contest runs now through July 15, 2021, with a two-day grace period.

Contestants are asked to create artwork around the following themes:

  • Shrinking the Carbon Footprint
  • Albuquerque Protects the Environment
  • My Favorite Green Energy
  • Electrical Power Protects the Flowers
  • Environmental Consciousness

Prizes will be awarded in the following categories:

  • Under the age of 10
  • Ages 11 to 15
  • Ages 16 to 18

One overall winner will receive $500 and the top six finalists (two from each category) will receive cash prizes of $400 each. Contestants can download a template of the bus wraps at www.cabq.gov/buswraps or visit www.cabq.gov/transit/2021-electric-bus-wrap-contest. If a contestant is not able to download a copy of the entry form they can pick one up at any local library.

After completing their design, contestants can submit a hi-resolution scan or photograph of their entry. Only one entry is allowed per participant and must be submitted digitally via email.

Artwork will be panel judged and the winning submissions will be offered to Transit and City of Albuquerque as prospective artwork for the electric bus fleet.

ABQRIDE reserves the right to digitally alter the winning submissions to format for printing and conforming to the shape, style and substrate used to cover the electrical bus fleet. All winning submissions may be used whole or in parts to create the final bus designs. Prizes are not compensation for work or purchase of submissions, they are prizes for being a finalist in the contest
