ABQ RIDE Closing the Gap on Hiring Shortages
ALBUQUERQUE – After two successful Hiring Fairs, ABQ RIDE is closing the gap on its staffing shortages across the entire department. With Human Resources staff on-site, new applicants were given the opportunity to expedite their hiring process through same-day interviews, hands-on bus demos, and meet and greets with current staff including drivers, mechanics, and training specialists. Between the two October events, ABQ RIDE Human Resources gave 76 job offers, including 44 Motorcoach Operators, 19 Sun Van Chauffeurs, and 6 Mechanics.
“With help from the entire ABQ RIDE team, we pulled off two successful hiring events that brought strong candidates to fill much needed positions,” said Transit Director Leslie Keener. “We are looking forward to welcoming new faces to the department and will continue to build a team that is committed to providing this essential service to our community.”
Once the hiring process is complete and applicants receive a final offer letter, new drivers will undergo a training period where they will receive all necessary information before being assigned to a route schedule. These new hires will significantly reduce the overall vacancy rates for ABQ RIDE and eventually allow the department to add service that had been previously reduced.
As ridership continues to rise across the entire ABQ RIDE system, bus drivers and mechanics are crucial to maintaining transportation services for residents and visitors of Albuquerque. Anyone interested in starting a career with the City of Albuquerque is encouraged to apply at cabq.gov/transitjobs.
