Hundreds of Families Cool Off at Summer of Nonviolence Pool Party

Free community event brings families together for recreation, resources, and positive summer experiences.

July 11, 2026

Wilson Park and Pool welcomed more than 300 community members from across Albuquerque for a lively afternoon of swimming, games, music, and community connection during the Summer of Nonviolence Pool Party.

The free event gave youth and families the opportunity to enjoy pool access, outdoor games, food trucks, and live entertainment while connecting with neighbors and learning about resources available throughout the community.

"Our Summer of Nonviolence events are about creating places where families can spend time together, make memories, and enjoy everything our community has to offer," said Mayor Tim Keller. "When we provide safe, welcoming activities for young people throughout the summer, we're helping build stronger neighborhoods and a brighter future for Albuquerque."

The Summer of Nonviolence Pool Party was made possible through a partnership between Albuquerque Community Safety, Albuquerque Fire Rescue, the City of Albuquerque Parks & Recreation Department, and Bernalillo County Commission Vice Chair Adriann Barboa (District 3). Together, the organizations continue working to provide free activities that encourage positive youth engagement and strengthen community relationships.

"Events like this bring people together in ways that matter," said ACS Community Outreach Manager Jeffery Bustamante. "Families can relax, have fun, and learn about programs and services that support their well-being. That's what the Seasons of Nonviolence is all about, creating opportunities for connection while investing in safer, healthier communities."

"It's inspiring to see families enjoying the pool, meeting their neighbors, and taking advantage of everything this event has to offer," said Bernalillo County Commission Vice Chair Adriann Barboa (District 3). "Providing free, accessible activities like these helps ensure every young person has opportunities to stay active, connected, and supported throughout the summer."

The Pool Party is one of many free Seasons of Nonviolence events taking place across Albuquerque and Bernalillo County. Throughout the year, the initiative continues to offer safe, family-friendly activities that encourage youth engagement, strengthen community connections, and promote a culture of respect and nonviolence.
