City and County Introduce Seasons of Nonviolence

Albuquerque Community Safety and Bernalillo County expand summer of nonviolence campaign to year-round initiative.

October 17, 2025

Building on the huge success of the past two summers, the City of Albuquerque’s Albuquerque Community Safety Department (ACS) and Bernalillo County are proud to announce the expansion of the “Summer of Nonviolence” campaign into the Seasons of Nonviolence, extending its powerful message and programming throughout the entire year to promote peace, safety, and community engagement in every season.

Since its inception, the Summer of Nonviolence has played a crucial role in hosting free, fun, safe, family-oriented events while raising awareness about nonviolent conflict resolution, reducing violence, and fostering a culture of respect across Albuquerque and Bernalillo County. With this evolution, the initiative will include new events, resources, and partnerships tailored to address community safety and well-being year-round.

"The expansion of this campaign into the Seasons of Nonviolence reflects our deep commitment to building a safer, more connected community every day of the year,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “Nonviolence is not just a summer goal — it is a lifelong commitment that strengthens families, neighborhoods, and our city as a whole."

Over the past two summers, the Summer of Nonviolence campaign hosted more than 20 community events, reaching nearly 15,000 attendees, including youth, adults, and families. Through these events, thousands of young people committed to pledge of nonviolence, marking a powerful step toward community healing and youth empowerment.

"By expanding to Seasons of Nonviolence, we are able to maintain momentum and provide continuous support and education for our community,” said ACS Director Jodie Esquibel. “Violence prevention is an important commitment for us, and this initiative will help us reach more residents with critical resources and programs throughout the year."

"Our partnership with the City of Albuquerque on this expanded campaign underscores our shared responsibility to promote peace and safety for all residents,” said Bernalillo County Commission Vice Chair Adriann Barboa (D3). “The Seasons of Nonviolence will ensure that our efforts to prevent violence and foster unity remain consistent and impactful, no matter the time of year."

The Seasons of Nonviolence campaign will feature a calendar full of community events, workshops, outreach programs, and collaborative efforts with local organizations designed to empower residents and create safer neighborhoods across Albuquerque and Bernalillo County.
