2,200+ Enjoy Free Seasons of Nonviolence Drive-In Movie at Balloon Fiesta Park
Event offered free, film, food and connection to services for families.
More than 2,200 residents gathered on Wednesday evening at Balloon Fiesta Park for a free drive-in screening of Clueless, continuing Albuquerque Community Safety's Seasons of Nonviolence campaign with an evening of family fun, community engagement, and access to local resources.
The event was presented by Albuquerque Community Safety in partnership with the City of Albuquerque Parks & Recreation Department, Bernalillo County, and 99.9 The Beat. As part of the ongoing Seasons of Nonviolence initiative, youth and families were invited to enjoy a safe summer activity while learning more about the campaign's mission to reduce violence and build a stronger community.
Attendees who completed a brief survey also received vouchers redeemable at participating food vendors, including One Stop Chill n Fill, Papa Cano’s, Ordinarily Beautiful Cotton Candy, Original Green Chile Corndog on a Stick, and XO Fast Foods.
Throughout the evening, families had the opportunity to connect with first responders and organizations offering behavioral health resources, housing and shelter assistance, food support, educational services, and other community programs. Increasing awareness of these resources remains a key goal of the Seasons of Nonviolence campaign as it continues supporting youth and families across Albuquerque.
"Bringing people together outdoors and having a good time is summer at its best,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “Any chance we have to connect neighbors and share how the City can help them builds a stronger community."
"These movie nights are about more than watching a film,” said ACS Community Outreach Manger, Jeffery Bustamante. “They're an opportunity for families to meet the people and organizations working in their neighborhoods, learn what resources are available, and enjoy an evening together. That's the kind of connection we're working to build through the Seasons of Nonviolence."
"When families have opportunities to gather, connect, and feel supported, it strengthens the entire community,” said Bernalillo County Commission Chair Adriann Barboa (D3). “The Seasons of Nonviolence is about creating those opportunities and making sure community members know there are people and resources they can turn to throughout the year."
The initiative will continue hosting free family events throughout the summer to encourage positive youth engagement and strengthen community connections.
