City of Albuquerque Cannabis Equity

As the state of New Mexico moves forward with adult-use cannabis, Albuquerque continues to work towards creating an equitable path forward for individuals, collectives, and organizations who want to enter this new industry.

The initial recommendations for an equity program were created by the Cannabis Equity working group. The working group was essential in gaining community insight regarding the need and potential structure for a social equity program.

Community Cannabis Equity Convenings

Input from the convenings will be used to inform recommendations regarding a social equity program for the City of Albuquerque in the Spring of 2022

Goals of Convening

• Define equity and what it means to the New Mexico cannabis industry.
• Discuss the implications of the war on drugs and its negative impacts on BIPOC communities.
• Hear what community members desire to see in a social equity program.
• Discuss potential tax dollar allocation from marijuana/cannabis sales in Albuquerque. 

Who's Invited?

• Community members who have been negatively impacted by the war on drugs; and/or
  • Previously incarcerated people
  • Previously charged with drug offense(s)
  • With family members incarcerated or charged with drug offense(s)
• Those who are part of a historically underrepresented community; refers to groups who have been denied access and/or suffered past institutional discrimination in the United States and, according to the Census and other federal measuring tools, includes African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanics or Chicanos/Latinos, and Native Americans.
• Those who have an interest in entering in marijuana/cannabis industry
• Those who have an interest in participating as an auxiliary business or organization in the marijuana/cannabis industry
