Ride ABQ RIDE for Free All Day April 22

Free fares on Buses and Sun Vans for Earth Day/National Get on Board Day

You can ride ABQ RIDE’s fixed route buses and Sun Vans for free on Monday, April 22, 2019. The free fares run from the beginning of service until the end of service to honor both Earth Day and National Get on Board Day, a new promotion by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA).

Earth Day has been celebrated in the United States since 1970, when millions of people first marched to protest the increasing pollution of our planet. Now, it’s a global event with more than a billion people participating in almost 200 countries.

“Just in time for Earth Day we are helping Burqueños lower their carbon footprint,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “Effective public transit systems give residents access to all parts of our city, no matter their background. They ease traffic and they put fewer pollutants from cars into the air.”

The Earth Day celebration is being combined with National Get on Board Day, a new effort by APTA to replace its Dump the Pump Day, traditionally held in June. Although the name of the day is different, APTA’s goal is still the same; “generating awareness of and increasing support for public transportation among riders and non-riders…”

“Since both days fall within the same week, we combined them to spotlight all the benefits ABQ RIDE offers our community, in addition to keeping cars off the road,” says Bernie Toon, Director of ABQ RIDE.  “Once new riders experience how convenient public transportation is, perhaps they’ll realize its value to our environment and their wallets.”

If you’re taking that free ride on ABQ RIDE on April 22, you also could win a specially-designed t-shirt for Earth Day/National Get on Board Day. All you have to do is take a short survey from one of ABQ RIDE’s marketing staff while riding on the bus.

For convenience on April 22 and every day, you can park your car to catch ABQ RIDE from one of several Park and Rides in Albuquerque:
