Course Overview

The Ethics & Code of Conduct Training Module is aimed at providing public service ethics curriculum to City officials, including elected officials and executive and senior staff.

The one year objectives, outlined in R-15-182 for the City of Albuquerque in Fiscal Year 2016, directs the implementation of this comprehensive ethics training program in order to reaffirm that the City is dedicated to fostering an environment of fairness and accountability in all of its dealings.

Course Goals & Objectives

The goal of this course is to act as a resource to the public servants of the City of Albuquerque and to reaffirm that the official acts of the elected officials and employees of the City of Albuquerque -- as well as the official acts of the members of the City’s boards, commissions and committees -- must be performed in such a manner as to gain and retain the confidence and trust of the public.

The goals of this training is to empower the public servant to:

  • Become familiar with public service ethics including applicable laws governing ethical conduct and policies
  • Understand the importance of maintaining public trust and confidence
  • Articulate the City of Albuquerque’s policy on ethics
  • Describe public service ethical principals
  • Identify and analyze various ethical dilemmas

The proper administration of democratic government requires that public officials be independent, impartial, and responsible to the people; that government decisions and policy be made in the best interest of the people, the community and the government; and that the public have confidence in the integrity of its government.
