Open Space Closures

The following East Mountain open space areas are currently closed:

Update on the Bosque fire cleanup and related closures:

Albuquerque Fire Rescue has reopened the Paseo del Bosque Trail (main paved bike/walking path) east of the Rio Grande River in the Bosque near Montano. Firefighters continue to work in the area, mitigating burned debris and addressing hazardous trees damaged from the fire. Members of the public that choose to enjoy the bike path this weekend are reminded to be aware of the fire apparatus, heavy equipment, and the roughly 100 firefighters that continue to work in the area.

The east side lower Bosque trails to the south of Montano continue to be closed along with the trails located on the west side of the river to the South of Montano. Trails north of the Rio Grande Nature Center to Montano are closed.

 

ABQ Community Safety

The City is currently providing emergency shelter to over 300 evacuees at five area hotels and the RV lot at Balloon Fiesta Park. The hotels are being staffed by responders from the Albuquerque Community Safety department and the department of Family and Community Services. There are no hotel rooms available May 13. Those in need of lodging can access rooms as they become available by calling 505-244-8604 beginning, Saturday, May 14.

Animal Welfare

Making food, crates, blankets, and other supplies for pets available for evacuees and deploying mobile preventive pet care to evacuee sites.

Arts & Culture

Providing free admission for residents of affected counties to the BioPark and Balloon Museum and making 100 free RV parking at Balloon Fiesta Park available.

Family & Community Services

Standing up emergency hotel lodging for evacuees in need and providing free childcare through City child development services and after school programming (requires enrollment).

Fire

Albuquerque Fire Rescue has sent mutual aide to Big Hole, Hermit’s Peak, and Calf Canyon. A total of 70 members have responded and the department continues to evaluate resources that can be provided.

Libraries

Giving access to computers and WiFi at City libraries for residents to use to fill out FEMA applications.

Police

APD is taking traffic calls the NMSP would normally take to help with their staffing shortages and will help patrol City evacuee sites as needed.

Senior Affairs

Making hundreds of shelf stable meals available for evacuation sites, providing snack packets for emergency responders onsite, and collecting and delivering two truckloads of hygiene products for residents who do not have access to them.

Sunport Airport

The Albuquerque Sunport is supporting 10-tankers being used to fight fires.

Technology & Innovation

Providing free WiFi at Balloon Fiesta Park, community centers, and other City facilities through the WiFi in Neighborhoods program.
