The Central NM Climate Task Force will be the key authors of the Albuquerque Metro Statistical Area Comprehensive Climate Action Plan. The City of Albuquerque recognizes that climate change compounds existing inequities, and that those communities who are likely to be the most impacted by climate change are those best able to develop solutions. In line with these values, the City is seeking Community Task Force applicants who can authentically represent and connect to communities of color, indigenous and historically underserved communities. The City recognizes that community members are experts of their lived experiences and communities, and would like you to drive these efforts.
About CPRG:
Climate Pollution Reduction Grants (CPRG) Planning Program is a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency funded initiative that seeks to help states and Metropolitan Statistical Areas incorporate data-informed decision making into long-term planning efforts. Two of the key goals of this initiative are to 1) center the needs of frontline communities - those that experience the first and worst of climate change - and 2) to identify projects that significantly reduce climate pollution.
Responsibilities and Commitments:

Central NM Climate Task Force members will work together in facilitated meetings from September 2024 to March 2025 to:
- Further learn the nuances of Central New Mexico’s climate crisis
- Draw on expertise and community knowledge to set the Albuquerque Metro Statistical Area’s new climate policies
CPRG staff, CPRG consultants, and local subject matter experts will support the Task Force deliberations by providing data and context on the issues addressed in the Comprehensive Climate Action Plan.
If selected as a member of the Central NM Task Force, you will be asked to:
- Attend All Task Force Meetings
- Approximately 9 total meetings between September 2024 and March 2025 (date and times TBD)
- At least two meetings held in-person, estimated 203 hours per meeting
- Approximately seven meetings held virtually, estimated 2-3 hours per meeting
- Estimated 20-30 hour total commitment, 4-7 hours each month
- Review provided research materials prior to monthly Task Force meetings
- Constructively collaborate with fellow Task Force members
- Serve as a liaison between your community (i.e. family, friends, professional organizations and neighbors) and the CPRG regional planning work
- Engage in ongoing climate pollution reduction conversations and actions
Preferred Candidates:
- Live or work in the Albuquerque Metro Statistical Area which includes the City of Albuquerque, or the counties of Bernalillo, Sandoval, Torrence, and Valencia.
- Identify as a Black, Indigenous and/or Person of Color
- Have some experience with community organizing, advocacy, social work, policy development or environmental justice OR are willing to learn more
- Are interested in deeper learning on climate change and preparing for future changes
- Have some experience in OR are willing to learn more about topics such as transportation, renewable energy, energy efficiency, zoning, land management, recycling and waste reduction
- Are interested in collaborating with other community members, local government representatives and other experts to develop and discuss new policy ideas
Task Force Support
Task Force members will receive support throughout the regional planning process including:
- Stipend for time committed to the planning process
- Facilitation and administrative assistance for meeting participation
- Research and subject matter expert support on topics covered
- Interpretation support if needed
