Energy Code Information

2018 IECC

The effective date of the 2018 IECC was November 9, 2020, with a grace period until March 1, 2021 in which either the 2009 NM Conservation Code or the 2018 IECC will be accepted.

The City of Albuquerque will review all permit applications, residential and commercial, submitted after the March 1, 2021 under the 2018 International Energy Conservation Code, without technical amendments to the published ICC code.

Permit applications received between November 1, 2020 and March 1, 2021 will be reviewed under either the current New Mexico Energy Code or the 2018 IECC. All existing applications and permits presently in process will be under the current NM code.

National Electrical Safety Code

Projects must meet standards in the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), which may require larger setbacks for buildings to avoid electric power lines and easements.
